Conserving and restoring tropical forest landscapes offers an opportunity to address pressing environmental and social challenges. Effective conservation and restoration initiatives support multiple objectives, including ecosystem functioning, climate change mitigation and adaptation, food security, and economic growth. This seven-week course explores the technical, social, and funding aspects of this timely topic. You will learn: 1. The importance of tropical forest landscapes and the actors and motivations driving restoration and conservation efforts. 2. How tropical forest ecosystems work, and how they relate to climate change and biodiversity. 3. Estamos muy emocionados de contar contigo, porque juntos vamos a ir creando esta experiencia de aprendizaje que decidimos llamar “La paz que puedo construir: enfoques y conceptos clave”. Nos embarcaremos en un viaje de conocimientos donde vamos a ir explorando la construcción de paz y algunas de sus dimensiones, basándonos en el caso colombiano y la trayectoria de enseñanza que hemos construido desde la Maestría en construcción de paz de la Universidad de los Andes. Construir paz es una labor continua que requiere múltiples esfuerzos y compromisos compartidos a largo plazo. Es un proceso que va más allá de lograr una negociación entre dos partes o firmar un acuerdo bilateral. Existen múltiples contextos, variables, intereses y actores que confluyen en la construcción de paz para concretar cambios y transformaciones en el trámite violento de los conflictos. Queremos que tu experiencia sea única y cercana a la construcción de paz. Por eso, el diseño del curso propone la reflexión sobre la experiencia personal como herramienta fundamental de aprendizaje. Dicha reflexión estará articulada con los contenidos conceptuales y debates disciplinares que abordaremos a lo largo del curso para comprender los múltiples aspectos de la construcción de paz. Detecting COVID-19 with Chest X-Ray using PyTorch
In this 2-hour long guided project, we will use a ResNet-18 model and train it on a COVID-19 Radiography dataset. This dataset has nearly 3000 Chest X-Ray scans which are categorized in three classes - Normal, Viral Pneumonia and COVID-19. Our objective in this project is to create an image classification model that can predict Chest X-Ray scans that belong to one of the three classes with a reasonably high accuracy. Please note that this dataset, and the model that we train in the project, can not be used to diagnose COVID-19 or Viral Pneumonia. We are only using this data for educational purpose. Before you attempt this project, you should be familiar with programming in Python. You should also have a theoretical understanding of Convolutional Neural Networks, and optimization techniques such as gradient descent. This is a hands on, practical project that focuses primarily on implementation, and not on the theory behind Convolutional Neural Networks. Note: This course works best for learners who are based in the North America region. We’re currently working on providing the same experience in other regions.
