Automation with Drools: Knowledge-Based Decision Systems Coursera

Automation with Drools: Knowledge-Based Decision Systems

This intermediate-level project is for business software developers who want to enhance their skills in building expert systems using Drools. The goal of this project is for learners to showcase their programming and knowledge engineering abilities by constructing an expert system that automates decisions related to traffic violation incidents. To accomplish this, learners will convert traffic violation rules and policies into a model using Drools. They will then implement business logic using decision tables and verify their model using Drools test cases. Finally, they will deploy their Drools model as an online service and consume it from a client application. This project offers an overview of the capabilities of Drools and demonstrates its application in solving complex problems across various industries. By completing this project, learners will gain valuable experience in programming and knowledge engineering, as well as a deeper understanding of how to utilize Drools for automating business decisions. To succeed in this project, it is highly recommended to have experience with flowcharts and familiarity with software development concepts such as variables, classes, and RESTful API calls. Additionally, being acquainted with running Docker images is beneficial.

Understanding Einstein: The Special Theory of Relativity Stanford University

Understanding Einstein: The Special Theory of Relativity

In this course we will seek to “understand Einstein,” especially focusing on the special theory of relativity that Albert Einstein, as a twenty-six year old patent clerk, introduced in his “miracle year” of 1905. Our goal will be to go behind the myth-making and beyond the popularized presentations of relativity in order to gain a deeper understanding of both Einstein the person and the concepts, predictions, and strange paradoxes of his theory. Some of the questions we will address include: How did Einstein come up with his ideas? What was the nature of his genius? What is the meaning of relativity? What’s “special” about the special theory of relativity? Why did the theory initially seem to be dead on arrival? What does it mean to say that time is the “fourth dimension”? Can time actually run more slowly for one person than another, and the size of things change depending on their velocity? Is time travel possible, and if so, how? Why can’t things travel faster than the speed of light? Is it possible to travel to the center of the galaxy and return in one lifetime? Is there any evidence that definitively confirms the theory, or is it mainly speculation? Why didn’t Einstein win the Nobel Prize for the theory of relativity? About the instructor: Dr. Larry Lagerstrom is the Director of Academic Programs at Stanford University’s Center for Professional Development, which offers graduate certificates in subjects such as artificial intelligence, cyber security, data mining, nanotechnology, innovation, and management science. He holds degrees in physics, mathematics, and the history of science, has published a book and a TED Ed video on "Young Einstein: From the Doxerl Affair to the Miracle Year," and has had over 30,000 students worldwide enroll in his online course on the special theory of relativity (this course!).

Point-to-Point Wireless Telecommunication Links The University of Notre Dame

Point-to-Point Wireless Telecommunication Links

Point-to-point wireless telecommunication links are the backbone of many systems we rely on every day—from deep-space probes transmitting scientific discoveries across billions of miles, to the microwave backhaul networks that quietly carry data between cell towers, to fixed wireless access systems delivering broadband to homes and businesses. Even the most advanced multi-user wireless networks ultimately rely on the same fundamental building block: a reliable link between a transmitter and a receiver. In this course, you’ll explore some aspects of how that link works and why understanding it is essential in today’s interconnected world. Starting with the simplest one-way wireless system, you’ll learn how information is encoded, modulated, transmitted, and recovered over radio waves. Along the way, you’ll uncover the core techniques—analog and digital modulation, filtering, error control, and frequency-division strategies—that underpin modern technologies such as satellite communications, 5G infrastructure, scientific telemetry, and emerging wireless broadband solutions. By the end of the course, you’ll not only understand how a point-to-point link operates but also why these principles continue to drive innovation across the wireless ecosystem. This foundation will build upon and prepare you for other courses in the series and give you insight into the engineering decisions shaping today’s most critical communication systems. This course was developed with the support of SpectrumX, the U.S. National Science Foundation (NSF) Spectrum Innovation Center. NSF SpectrumX is funded via Award 2132700 and operated under cooperative agreement by the University of Notre Dame. Any opinions, findings, conclusions, or recommendations expressed in this material are those of the author(s) and do not necessarily reflect the views of the NSF.

Moreover, 85% of enterprises are already in the process of adopting or testing SD-WAN solutions. If your organization is still relying on traditional WAN networks, you may be facing unnecessary costs and reduced productivity. Network management comes with its challenges - configuring firewalls, addressing latency issues, and troubleshooting connectivity disruptions. While the introduction of another networking term might seem overwhelming, SD-WAN is far more than just industry jargon. It is a transformative solution that reduces costs, enhances speed, and increases security. This program explores critical elements of SD-WAN, such as its architecture, traffic management, security features, and practical deployment tactics. You’ll have hands-on exercises via engaging demonstrations and interactive tasks, guaranteeing that you can use your skills in actual situations. This course is tailored for network engineers, IT professionals, system administrators, cybersecurity specialists, and network architects who are responsible for maintaining and optimizing enterprise networks. It’s also ideal for anyone seeking to enhance their knowledge of modern networking solutions, especially those looking to integrate smarter, more agile technologies into their existing infrastructure. To get the most out of this course, learners should have a basic understanding of IT infrastructure and familiarity with networking concepts such as routers, VPNs, and WANs. No programming skills are required, making this course accessible to professionals focused on network operations, system performance, and infrastructure management. By the end of the course, learners will be able to identify SD-WAN architecture and key features, understand its impact on performance and cost efficiency, and design a foundational SD-WAN plan for different environments.
